Arsenal target banished from first-team training as transfer exit looms
Arsenal transfer target has reportedly been informed to train away from the main group as a summer exit intensifies
The search for attacking reinforcements at Arsenal has become more urgent this summer, with the club anticipating the departures of Eddie Nketiah and Reiss Nelson before the transfer window closes. The Gunners have been closely monitoring Juventus winger Federico Chiesa, who is reportedly being pushed out of the Italian club.
Juventus’ new head coach, Thiago Motta, has made it clear that Chiesa is not part of his plans for the upcoming season. According to Gazzetta dello Sport, the situation has escalated to the point where Chiesa has been excluded from first-team training and is now training individually. With his contract running until the summer of 2025, Juventus is actively seeking buyers for the winger.
Earlier reports suggested that Barcelona had shown interest in Chiesa, but recent updates from Catalonia indicate that the Italian international is no longer on their radar. Despite this, Chiesa remains a hot commodity, with several Premier League clubs, including Arsenal, expressing interest.
In the 2022-23 Serie A season, Chiesa featured in 33 matches, scoring 9 goals and providing 3 assists. Known for his pace, dribbling, and finishing, the 26-year-old has the versatility to play on either wing or as a second striker, making him an attractive option for Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta. His tactical flexibility could provide a significant boost to Arsenal’s attack.
Chiesa’s reputation grew after his standout performances during Italy’s Euro 2020 triumph, but an ACL tear in 2022 sidelined him for seven months, temporarily halting his rise. However, his talent and potential remain unquestionable, and Juventus are reportedly open to selling him abroad for a fee in the region of €40-50 million—well within Arsenal’s budget for a new forward.
While no formal offer has been made, discussions between Arsenal and Chiesa’s representatives are reportedly advancing. The Gunners face competition from Roma, who have also expressed interest in the winger. However, Arsenal’s need for a proven goalscorer and Chiesa’s desire for a new challenge could work in their favor as the transfer deadline approaches.
